finding a workout plan

In the past week, I haven’t been very good about exercising. Tsk tsk!! I’ve been busy and I’ve just put my workouts on the back burner. That’s okay, though… if I’ve learned one thing in my journey to fitness, I’ve learned that I can’t beat myself up too much over past missed workouts. What’s done is done, and I can’t change the past, but I CAN focus on today. Try to make every day a little better, and you’ll probably turn out okay! (What’s that old saying- aim for the moon, and even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars!)

Summer’s almost here, which (at least for some people) means a last-minute extreme body workout in an attempt to achieve a respectable beach body. Personally, I highly doubt I will be a twig by June :-) but I am quite happy with what I have achieved. In fact, my current swimsuit is one size too large- it still works, but if I lose much more weight, I’ll need to buy a new suit.

I really need to find another race, maybe a fall race, to get back to training. Even though, in hindsight, I can see errors, I’m really pleased with my training for the Rock the Parkway half marathon. For roughly four months, I was really sticking with a schedule and running frequently. It wasn’t quite as specific as some of the 90 day review programs out there, but I DID gain quite a bit of muscle mass!!

birthday, arthur bryants, ipad

Well, this has been a crazy weekend, and it bodes to be a crazy week, but I can’t really complain. “Crazy”, in my world, is just another word for “lots of work”, which means “lots of income”. Plus I’m designing a new theme and I just keep making changes and can’t decide on how I want it to look.

Yesterday, Cinco de Mayo, was my birthday. Appropriately, I didn’t get much work done ON my birthday… I tend to enjoy taking holidays and other “special days” off. It’s always nice to have a little time off. My parents took me to Arthur Bryant’s BBQ for dinner- YUM!! Seriously, if you’re ever in Kansas City, it is TOTALLY worth a visit!

For a birthday gift, my family will be giving me a 3rd generation iPad. I’m very excited by this- I mean, the potential uses for this thing will be so broad! Plus it’s lots of fun to search for accessories on ebay! :) It will mean some additional work this month on my part- I will need to convert my email from ThunderBird to Gmail, and I probably need to choose a secure digital password safe. But it’s worth the extra work!

Otherwise… well, this will be a busy week, but I’m looking forward to it. Work is good. Life is good.

productivity, chick fil a, shopping

This has been a busy day, but in the best way possible. I feel incredibly productive, although it looks like I will need to postpone bringing my new theme live. But I’ve made so much progress and learned so much that it’s totally worthwhile.

Tonight my family will probably go to Chick-Fil-A for dinner. We haven’t been there in awhile, plus it’s close to Wal-mart, and we need several things from there. Nothing too exciting- vitamins, soap, toilet paper. The usual necessities for running a household.

Tonight I’ll probably do some online shopping for other household things… with spring coming, I need to replace our home’s address plaques, and it probably also wouldn’t hurt to replace some of our gardening tools.

designing and gimping

This has been a busy day. I went to the library, recycling center, grocery store, Kmart, and out to lunch this morning and early afternoon. Then, since I came home, I have been working on the theme for this website. I had the idea to design a new background, using tools on GIMP that I haven’t used before, so I’ve spent the afternoon teaching myself how to do that.

Hopefully I can get that finished by tomorrow. I’ve also been playing with the @font-face command, and I need to finish that. But right now I think I’m calling it a night… I am exhausted and I have a headache, so I think bed will be my destination soon!

new theme eta

I’ve been working on a new theme for this site, making good progress, and hopefully I will be able to take it live tomorrow. Or maybe the next day. We’ll see. I’m still in the process of replacing some icons and changing the background, but I’m pleased with what I have so far.

Of course, I do have this problem where, every time I look at this theme, I think of something else I can do to make it better. So it’s never really “done”…

My sudden social life

This Past weekend, I went to THREE parties. THREE!!! It’s been awhile since I’ve been invited to ONE party, but this past weekend was just crazy! It was a lot of fun, though, even if it was nuts. I can hardly believe all the changes that have happened in the past couple of years. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been pretty awesome. It’s pretty amazing to consider all the new friends I’ve made in the past couple of years.

I have to be careful or I’m gonna get all sentimental!! My life is so good.

SEO and iPad

So I’m thinking about ways that I could incorporate using an iPad into my work- content writing and other affordable SEO services. The keyboard is really growing on me. It’s also MUCH smaller and lighter than my laptop, so it would be pretty easy to take it with me outside the house.

I suppose I’d have to switch my email interface to something browser-based, like Gmail. I’ve been using Thunderbird for years, quite happily, but obviously that won’t work well if I’m switching between the computer and iPad.

I’m still not wild about the price, but I definitely can see how I could use this. I wonder what other cheap SEO apps are available in the app store… I bet I could use this to optimize my websites too. I would guess this may not be so good for design purposes but I’m seeing good writing potential.

Interesting side note… In WordPress, the iPad does not feature both the the HTML and wysiwyg views. Only the HTML view- I think. We’ll see if the links work on this when I hit publish.

Trying out an Ipad

Last Friday, my mother was given an IPad for her job. I’m seriously considering buying an iPad for myself, so this is a really great opportunity to try out the iPad before dropping $500-plus dollars on one. There are a LOT of things I like about this iPad, and other things that I may not love, but I can deal with.

For example, I was very much afraid that the typing would be awkward, slow, or impossible. It’s definitely slower than on a standard keyboard, BUT not bad at all. That’s considering I can type 65 words per minute on a regular keyboard. Plus I can buy a Bluetooth keyboard to go with the iPad.

Memory is a slight concern. I don’t really want to spend an extra $200 for a 64GB iPad, but I don’t want to have too little memory either. Most data can be stored in the cloud nowadays, though, so I can definitely store all my documents and likely also my photographs in the cloud. Movies are a bit more of a challenge but I case spect there is a cloud-based solution for that. I also found out about a wireless external hard drive with 500GB available for $200- incidentally, the same price as a higher-capacity iPad.

The battery is not replaceable, which is a minor nuisance, but I definitely think I can live with that.

I’m honestly almost sold on this. I’m cautious about buying ANY high price item, but this is just pretty good…

too much work, not enough time!

Can someone PLEASE tell me where the time goes? I’ve been swamped with SEO requests in the past few days, and I feel like I do NOT have enough time to do everything I want to do! It’s a good problem to have- just a very crazy life!

Right now I’m also fighting a bit of eyestrain. Too much time at the computer! But that’s okay, I suspect I’ll sleep quite well tonight.

I still have another hour or hour and a half before I go to bed, so I should be able to finish writing an article about Facebook app for car dealers. Definitely add that to the list of crazy random things I’ve gotten to write about! If you’d asked me in high school, I guarantee I never would have expected to one day be writing car dealer SEO articles. But life is unpredictable, and dealer SEO pays the bills! What a world!
