this little light of mine…

We had another storm last night.  We also had another power outage last night.  Yippee…

So, with no power, our internet didn’t work (because the router and modem need constant power) and our computers didn’t work anyway.  We pulled out our handy “blackout” radio, a radio that picks up the audio on television frequencies, so that we could still listen to the news.

We pulled out all our candles and created a “soft light” zone around our dining table.  Hint: Tealights are fantastic for blackouts.  If you need to carry the candle with you, though, put a votive candle inside a baby food jar or votive holder.

Anyway… we played several rounds of Skip-bo by candlelight.  Then, when the news was over, we went to bed - because frankly there was nothing else to do!  It really makes me understand how and why people slept so much more before they had electric lights!

Out of all the storms this year, this was the first one to knock out our power. I think we lost ours somewhere around 2am and didn’t get it back until almost 10am. Thank goodness it was during our bedtime!

We lost ours around 7pm and got it back at 6:30am. We’re fairly accustomed to power outages - not that they happen often, but we’ve lived in the midwest for YEARS and have survived a handful of outages that lasted up to a week or more. Mostly it’s just a HUGE change in routine. Not necessarily a bad one - it is always good for us to play games and “bond” and such - but definitely a change!
