Hey all. Not a lot of time tonight but I haven’t forgotten you.

I actually got quite a bit done today. It was busy and productive.

Tomorrow we are (re)opening our garage sale. I am just praying someone will buy my desk. I absolutely HAVE to get rid of it- I have no room for it!

I just brushed a hair off my arm. Now it has made me paranoid that there is a spider somewhere crawling on me.

I have to get up early tomorrow so I should go to sleep. Always lots of work to do!

-pack up books and plush animals. Deliver to public library and Hope House.
-strip and sand wallpaper.
-paint office.
-order loft bed on craigslist or ebay.
-add jiglu plugin or some other auto tag plugin to this site.
-retroactively tag all my posts.
-write all my posts about the trip to nebraska.
-write all my content articles, roughly 20-40, 500-plus words each.
-install offline WYSIWYG wordpress editor on my pc.
-back up my pc to my external hard drive.
-delete all unneccessary programs and defrag.
-get my car repaired.
and finally, last but certainly not least- sleep!

How did my life get so hectic?

Written at 2pm, Saturday June 6.

Hello blog. I don’t know if this will go through, because I’ve discovered the cell service is pretty flukey around Funk amd Wilcox. Luckily our hotel is in Minden, and I can get a pretty reliable EDGE signal there. So it WILL get sent eventually.

I hope my cell phone battery holds out all day. I think I will charge it in the car. It’s just low enough that it could die on me.

We had a memorial service this morning for my great uncle, who died last April from a heart attack. It was at the Salem church outside Funk, Nebraska. That church was founded by one of my ancestors- let me think- it was my second-double-cousin’s great-uncle’s grandfather- which makes it- eh, something like my fourth great grandfather.

Then we came to the park behind my great aunt and great uncle’s house in Wilcox, Nebraska. They catered a lunch for all of us. The food was delicious. Afterwards we all just sat around and talked. The young kids played kickball. I am still sitting in the picnic shelter. I’ve pretty much talked myself out, so now I’m just bored. Nothing to do except play with the blackberry.

I’m half hoping that we will get to go back to the hotel this afternoon. I would love to change out of my tennis shoes and into my flip flops, and out of my tshirt and into a tank top and jacket. I would also like to drink a nice big cherry coke zero, and I’d love to visit Pioneer Village in Minden.

Not much else to say. I think (hope?) we will leave soon. Don’t know what else we will do this afternoon. For dinner we are meeting my Dad’s brother and his wife, their daughter and her husband, his sister, her son, her daughter and husband, and their two kids. Confused yet? I have to admit I’m not *that* excited about it, but hopefully with blackberry I will be entertained.

In spite of all I have accomplished today, it hasn’t felt that busy. Mom and I woke up early to swim. After that, we came home, showered, and packed. My dad was on a business trip but left this morning and got home around 2:30pm. Mom and I were basically just waiting for him, and we turned around and left when he got home. Since then we’ve been in the car, save for a quick dinner in Nebraska City. Right now we are outside of Grand Island and almost to our destination, Minden. (Our hotel is in Minden but our family reunion will be in Holdrege, Wilcox, Funk, and Loomis.)

This is a FAST trip compared to our visits to my grandparents in Denver! About half the time!

Not a whole lot to report. Nebraska is pleasant in a Nebraska way. Cell phone coverage is decent, which is a relief to me since I am sure this phone will be my entertainment during some parts of the weekend. I’m not sure what kind of internet access the hotel will have, if any, so hopefully at least my phone will have access.

Tomorrow morning we will have a memorial for a great-uncle who passed away a few months ago. There will be a lunch- I’m assuming a burgers-and-hotdogs affair. Then we are meeting one aunt, two cousins, and their two kids (possibly also another aunt, uncle, 2 cousins, and their spouses) for dinner. It should be interesting, to say the least. Sunday morning, we will meet in the old family church and one of my preacher relatives will lead the service. I am going to try to twitter and photograph the whole thing.

Also, I’m wondering if I should take bets as to how many times I will be asked if I’m married or have a boyfriend. (For the record, the answer is NO!)

I hope my dad enjoys it. This is his side of the family, and it can be like pulling teeth to get together with his brother and sister and their families. I think there’s still a rift there because I didn’t approve of one of my cousin’s fiance/husband. (Still don’t, for what it’s worth, though now it is more because of what she ha become since she met him. She has (had?) a lot of potential.) Plus I think there’s still some pain left from his (now deceased) mother. She was a very strong willed person and not the easiest to get along with.

Families can be so strange like that. We get angry for strange reasons and the pain continues over generations. I was talking to my pastor the other day about genealogy, and he mentioned his own family’s rift- they were southern slave owners, long ago, and when one branch became abolitionist, it created a rift that still hasn’t healed. Rifts in my own family make me feel bad- for anything I may have done to contribute to the rift. Not that I regret my opinions- I don’t- just the way I may have expressed them. Plus, since then I’ve tried again and again to reach out and heal those rifts, and been met by the same selfish chill. I hope his family will one day be able to realize that the past is past, and it’s time to look ahead.

We’re coming up on Kearney. I can see lightening in the distance. It’s a true Nebraska night. I hope this weekend goes well. I’ll keep you posted.

What a busy day- productive though! Wrote a whole bunch of ads, created a powerpoint for church, wrote more ads. Drove to church, grabbed dinner, left the powerpoints at church. Cleaned the church. Came home. Cleaned the garage. Called my father. Yikes.

I’ve also been swimming this week- every day so far. Yay me!

Tomorrow night my parents and I will be leaving for a family reunion in Nebraska. It will be a super short trip- we will return Sunday night. But it will be fun to visit family, even just for a few days.

I also got a HUGE writing assignment tonight. It’s an awful time, since I’m leaving tomorrow. But at the same time, if I can get it done, it would pay me quite well. Yikes.

I also don’t know if I will get decent cell phone coverage in Nebraska, which only complicates the massive writing assignment. What insanity!

We are driving home tonight and are only an hour or hour and a half from home. I’m exhausted, as usual- it makes very little sense, but I love the missouri-to-colorado drive and hate he colorado-to-mo drive.

After we get home, I will unpack, shower, and fall into bed. I have a load of ads, assignments, opps, and emails to catch up on, but it will have to wait until tomorrow. I also got some good writing done on this trip, which I need to transfer off of my blackberry and onto my hard drive.

Can’t think of much else. I’m sorry that I did not have regular internet access on this trip outside of my blackberry, but I still plan to type up my stories and post lots of pics.

Speaking of blackberry, kudos to AT&T. I was shocked and surprised by the quality of the cell phone reception throughout my trip! It was fantastic! I hope that my trip to nebraska in June is this good. Seriously, that company outdoes themselves to make me glad I choose them!
