lol at the cat

I found this story on Meebo.com’s blog, and it was just too funny to not include it on my own.  Follow the link to read the original post, or you can read the cut-and-pasted version below.
I think cats are smart. I grew up with cats as pets, so I have plenty of anecdotal evidence.
My [...]

The amazing Iditerod relay

I am watching a show in the weather channel about the amazing dog teams who got a lifesaving package of diptherua serum th Nome, Alaska in 1925.
It’s an amazing story- men and dogs who risked their lives to save so many.
Around me, six cats are sleeping.
I am awed by the bravery of these beautiful creatures.

Kitty feedin and kitty lovin

I spent a good portion of the afternoon figuring out some problems with my phone and this site. I downloaded Opera Mini, which did a remarkable amount to solve the problem.
Now I am at my friend Beth’s house, where I will be house sitting and kitty feeding all weekend. With a little luck, I’ll be [...]

peta’s latest “gimme a break!”

PETA asks Ben & Jerry’s to use breast milk.
As in, human breast milk.
I find this article so stunning that I can’t even find words for it.
I am an absolute believer in kindness to animals.  Animal cruelty is WRONG, no two ways about it!  But I also believe that animals were given to us to nourish [...]

aging animals, what to do?

I’ve always said that if I were to become a veterinarian, I would really struggle with putting animals to sleep.  Even when they are old and in pain, it feels a little bit like “becoming God”.  So I really respect veterinarians who are able to do that.
Yesterday I read this fascinating article about the veterinarian’s [...]

serpentine reptilia aka black rat snakes

Yup. Tonight we have black rat snakes on our porch.
This isn’t the first time they have visited our house following heavy rains. Our house is one of the highest places in the neighborhood (in terms of elevation), and there is a large wooded area one block away.
However, this IS the first time they [...]

insomnia, kitty story

It’s 2am and I can’t sleep, so I decided to get online and blog for awhile.  Here’s a kitty story from today that you can all enjoy.
My pastor’s oldest daughter, Abbie, is 17 years old.  For a 17-year-old kid, she’s pretty cool.  She’s very intelligent, and most Sundays I will have a conversation with her [...]

cat, mouse cause three day power outage

In Tirana, Albania, a cat chased a mouse into some high-voltage power lines, leading to a power outage that lasted 72 hours and the deaths of both the cat and mouse.
It’s a shame that two cute animals can lead to such havoc.
