retail bias?

Here’s one local story that piqued my interest tonight.
A local gentleman who happened to be African American returned a pair of shoes to a Journeys store. After he got home, he discovered a racial slur printed on his receipt.
The employee who printed that receipt, an 18 year old lady, has been interviewed by our local press. She says that she had no idea that the racial comment was printed on the receipt; she just pushed the appropriate buttons for a return and handed the receipt to the gentleman.
Having worked in retail before, I must say I think I believe this young lady. I know that, when you’re doing returns, nowadays the process is VERY automated. You push buttons, but you never really have an option in which you have to type in any kind of personal input. I suspect that, at some point, a manager or supervisor programmed that comment into the computer.
Either way, this story is enough to turn me off. I will definitely NOT be shopping at Journeys again.

Wow - that is really terrible.
