solution for getting healthy: hard work

Yesterday I got another issue of Reader’s Digest magazine in the mail. I’ve enjoyed that magazine for some time.

Anyway, there was (yet another) article in that magazine about losing weight and getting rid belly fat. It was really rather controversial- this person was saying that fat was good, not bad. This got me to thinking…

How many articles have been published on the subject of weight loss? And how many of them had a REAL solution? The answer, I suspect, is none. Carbs were good before they were bad, then they were good again. Protein was bad before it was good, then it became bad again. Fat was bad before some fat was good, then all fat was good, then it was all bad again.

It seems to me that the problem is not that we don’t know what to do. The problem is, we know what to do, but it’s hard and we don’t want to do it. We need to eat a balanced diet, lots of fruits and vegetables, with moderate portion sizes. We need to exercise regularly. We need to be more active in general- taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking farther away from the store, and so on. But getting healthy is hard. It’s easier to read articles about what we should do than to actually do it!
