The past couple of weeks have been quite insurance adventurous for me. I’ve reached the point where I can afford to pay for health insurance, which is very exciting. But I’ve already been rejected by one insurance company, and I don’t hold out a lot of hope for the others. It’s scary to be uninsured and uninsurable. Don’t get me wrong, though- I am not a fan of any of the policies presented by President Obama. I’ve studied too much economics to think that is going to work. Maybe I should just get life insurance quotes- frankly, Heaven will be better anyway!
Can you believe how much some people will spend on their cars? Now that it is getting into fall, more and more people are spending ridiculous amounts of time at the car wash cleaning up their cars before winter comes. I take a lot of pride in being able to wash my car using only 3-4 quarters (around here that is about a minute and a half of high powered water). So I laugh when I see people who spend ridiculous amounts of money just to wash their cars. It’s bad enough that they had to adorn their vehicle with silly stuff like push bars or fancy hubcaps. All that car washing is just dumb!
My neighbor got some new outdoor lights for her garden, and my dad has just fallen in love with them. They are solar powered and provide just enough ambient light to show off her flowers without overpowering the darkness of the night. They’re pretty neat but honestly we do not have a garden that is set up in a way to allow lighting. Fine with me anyway- I am not a big fan of gardening!
I know a lot of people who burn scented candles in their homes to improve the scent, or the atmosphere, or something like that. I’m not against those scented candles- in fact I think they are a great way to improve the odors when you live in an area that is prone to mold and mildew, or when you have pets that produce a strong odor (like cats). But I am just paranoid enough about my house catching fire that I refuse to burn candles in my house. Even if aesthetically pretty and pleasantly scented candle sconces- I just figure it’s easier to eliminate the risk than to manage it!
Do you ever imagine what your life could have been? Not in a negative way, just in a… curious way. I mean, I am in no way complaining about where I am today in life- I have a great life and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
But it is strange to imagine… if I hadn’t had a car accident during high school, I am sure I would have traveled a different path. I might have gone into medicine, or law (yikes, I might have been one of those really annoying Seattle personal injury attorneys!). I might have gone into engineering, or… who knows?
I am lucky in that I have very long, thick, dark hair. But of course, on the flip side of that, I have dark hair on my legs (so I have to shave a LOT) and I have thick, dark eyebrows.
So here’s my confession: Until fairly recently (maybe a year ago?), I didn’t pluck my eyebrows. It was just too much work. It’s still a lot of work- I am not as good as I probably should be about maintaining my eyebrow grooming.
And sheesh, I bet it won’t be long before I’m looking for the best eye cream for wrinkles. But I am lucky- with the right eye shadow, my eyes look fantastic.
I’ve kind of alluded to this before, but to those who are wondering, I have started to really consider going into computers full time. I don’t know, though- it’s a tough choice. It’s hard to believe but there are a LOT of “subcategories” under the umbrella of computers- everything from industrial computers, to graphic design, to systems analyst, to hardware, to software and programming… the list really goes on and on. I am lucky in that, I know a little bit about a lot of things. But I don’t know a lot about any one thing and I’d have to study and get certified if I want to get a job. Still need to work out those details.
I vote we ban all annoying lawyer commercials. Like the ones where they promise to get you money for your malignant Mesothelioma. Yea right- whatever!
The thing is, I don’t think people want to accept that life is dangerous and unpredictable. Life is inherently random. You can lock yourself up in a rubber room, and you can still die from a burst appendix. We can take appropriate precautions, like eating a healthy diet or buckling seat belts in the car, but freak accidents happen. That’s life.
