Today was crazy but fun. I taught in the same elementary school all day, but with two different classes – third grade in the morning and second grade in the afternoon. It was a bit of a crazy day- I didn’t have a real “break” because of the way the classes overlapped in the middle of the day – but I absolutely cannot complain. Both classes were fantastic. It’s amazing how different two classes of the same age can be. Some of you may recall, a few weeks ago I taught a second grade class that was nightmarish. It was also a different school. But it was just nothing like the second graders I taught today. Today’s class was respectful, well behaved, followed directions, eager to do homework – one student even asked for MORE homework!
It’s an interesting observation that these schools are from areas of town that are just night and day when it comes to their “socioeconomic class”. I know it’s not politically correct to say this but it’s true. The kids at the school with the really bad second grade class live in the “bad” part of town. The kids at today’s school, with the wonderful second grade class, live in the “economically booming” part of town. I don’t know how much those factors relate, but it is certainly interesting.
