I received my first pair of glasses just after my 9th birthday.  After a year of not being able to see the chalkboard, my mom took me to the eyedoctor, where the doctor diagnosed me as quite nearsighted.

I received my first box of contact lenses when I was… *counts on fingers*… I think it was around the time of my 16th birthday.  I’ve worn contacts almost every day since then, aside from a short 6-month break during my senior year of high school (due to a constant busy-ness and a chronic lack of sleep) and about a 9-month break after I graduated from college (due to a chronic lack of money).  But even when I wore contacts during the day, I still always ensured that I had a pair of frames.  I don’t wear my contacts around the clock, and I like to be able to see at night (after I take them out) and in the morning (before I put them in).  Also, as I’m sure most contact-lens-wearers can sympathize, there are just the days every once in a rare while when my eyes are dry or tired and I have to leave my lenses out.

I’m a little bit picky about my glasses, though.  I’ve found that when you spend more money for a high quality pair of frames, you save money in the long run because the frames last longer.  But shelling out the money for a good pair of eyeglasses is a big investment.

It won’t be long before I need a new pair of eyeglasses.  I’m looking at possibly buying them online from a site like Zenni Optical.  The savings are significant and the quality is still quite good.
