subbing and sanity (or lack thereof)

Wow.  The past couple of days have been CRAZY busy subbing!
Yesterday I was at one of the middle schools.  Not a bad day… sixth grade social studies.  Most of the classes were pretty good… emphasis on “most”!
Today I was at one of the high schools.  This was a FANTASTIC day… advanced high school English classes, [...]

subbing

I’m picking up a little bit each day.  I’m still sneezing, coughing, and blowing my nose, but not as much as yesterday.  Oh, and I’m still hoarse.  Other than that, I really feel pretty good.
I’m going back to subbing tomorrow.  Yep, crazy crazy.  I bought a package of Luden’s cough drops at the grocery store [...]

christmas

I love christmas.  Part of it is that I’m a total gifter- I love to give gifts.  Often I will volunteer someplace or give the “gift of time”, like in cleaning a house or whatever.  But I really like to give tangible gifts.
Unfortunately that presents the problem of money… seems like I never have enough [...]

unusual facebook friend requests

Here’s some recent unusual facebook friend requests for your amusement.
First, we’ll take a look at “Mike Baldwin”.  He’s a democrat who lives in Kansas City and graduated from the same high school as me, two years before me.  Aside from being a democrat, he looks reasonably legit.  I’ll probably approve him.  (Note to all my [...]

feeling better

Yup… happy news… I woke up this morning feeling MUCH better.  Of course, I overslept… but it was worthwhile.  When I woke up this morning, I no longer had that “foggy” feeling in my head.  I was sneezing and blowing my nose like a maniac, but I could breathe through BOTH my nostrils.  Plus, most [...]

economics

I have perhaps a strange perspective on the economy.  On the news, it seems like we are always hearing about a poor economy.  But financially, I am actually doing better now than when the economy was “good”.  I don’t rely on income from the stock market.  I have a savings account, admittedly with a low [...]

a very blah day

I woke up this morning with a cold.  Ick!  I had NO voice whatsoever- quite possibly the worst case of laryngitis I’ve ever experienced.  Plus of course I had the stuffy nose and total exhaustion.  So I skipped church (I think God will forgive me!) and slept.  Then I got up, ate lunch, and went [...]

online degrees

When I was younger, I would have NEVER considered attending an online university.  I wanted to go to a brick and mortar school.
Since then, I’ve met quite a few people who have Online Degrees.  Surprisingly, I’ve discovered that online schools are not necessarily all that bad.  Of course you have to find a good school [...]

freedom of speech??

I believe our nation’s founding fathers were incredibly wise when they wrote the U.S. Constitution.  I suspect you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who disagrees with that.  They set up a government with built-in safeguards that protect our innate natural freedoms, including freedom of speech as outlined in the first amendment (”Congress shall make [...]

buy it on the net

They say you can buy anything on the internet, and that’s about right.  I’ve found lots of strange strange stuff online.  Of course you can buy the standard stuff that you can get at a mall – like books and clothes.  You can get consumables, like toothpaste or bandaids or adult diapers.  But I’ve also [...]
