I had an interview today with a local school district.  I’ve applied to substitute teach there.  I like subbing- it’s a very flexible job – and I can use the extra money.

So, you know how I wrote in my last post about how tired I was this morning, and how I barely dragged myself out of bed and into the pool?  Before I went swimming, I grabbed a small breakfast- an apple with a “spritz” of peanut butter.  When I got home from the pool, I was so tired that I fell asleep, on the recliner, in front of the TV.

I woke up at 2pm.  My appointment for this interview was at 2:45pm, but I needed to leave by 2:30.  I got up and changed into dressier clothes.  Went into the bathroom, brushed my hair (not an easy task, since it was all matted from sleeping), and styled it into something kinda fancy.  Then I powdered my face and coated my lashes in mascara.  I would have added more – maybe some blush, or eyeliner – but by this time, it was 2:25 and I had no more time.

My stomach was growling unhappily.  I hadn’t eaten since that 7am apple, and I had no more time to eat.  Unfortunately I couldn’t do anything about that.

So, I head off to the interview.  They started by fingerprinting me (for the background check).  Then I went into a small office and talked with woman who (I presume) worked for their HR department.  Then I was taken into another office, where the woman who is in charge of the substitutes handed me a thick pad of papers to figure out.  That had to have taken at least a half hour, probably longer.  I filled out IRS forms, release forms, “in-case-of-emergency” forms, and (because we can’t expect any less from them) more IRS forms.  Then I talked to the woman in charge of the substitutes.  She told me lots of information about the substitute selection system and the district in general.

FINALLY, almost two hours after I had arrived, I was done.  I immediately headed for the nearest McDonalds.  It was no longer a matter of finding proper nourishment.  It was a matter of finding something, ANYTHING, to eat.

But, on the upside, the interview went well and I am quite confident that I will be hired.  Of course, they can’t hire anyone until they have passed the background check.  But I was told to bring her more paperwork (transcript, teacher’s certificate, reference letters) so that I could begin work ASAP after they receive the background check.  So, I guess the crazy day was worthwhile!
