I do believe I am crazy. Totally, completely, over-the-edge loco.
I have a degree in elementary education. I have three more teaching certificates (in middle school mathematics, high school english, and high school social studies) because I’m just a total nerd.
I taught, briefly. Long enough for me to realize that I don’t really enjoy teaching.
Now I’m looking at getting a job. My savings account is dwindling, and frankly I know that when I publish a book, it will require a signficant financial investment.
Originally I thought I would just get a job at the local grocery store. Easy job, it will pay the bills, and I might be able to get health insurance through them. I am guessing I could probably get paid around $8.50 to begin with.
But then, last night I had the bolt-of-lightening realization: If I can get a job substituting, I can get paid quite a bit more- usually $85 per day, or about $10.63 per hour. The other advantage would be that I would work hours that are a little more “regular”. I would be able to be home in the evening. Plus, if I get breaks and stuff, I could work on my writing.
There’s only one big concern: around here, school starts this week or next week. So it’s a gamble if I will be able to get hired!
Oh, and also I will need to get some dressier clothes. Blah. If I could just lose a little weight, then I could fit into the clothes that I have laying around from student teaching.
I wish you all the luck in the world getting a job in teaching. I have such a respect for people who teach- only because I don’t personally think I could handle it!
Keep us posted!!
Jessicas last blog post..In process..
I’m not sure I can handle it either! But it pays well, and I’m just crazy enough that I think I’ll give it a shot…
Yay for being nuts!
