Most of you know I’m currently shopping for a (newish) cell phone. I don’t have a phone right now- my contract ended just before I went to Africa, and since then I’ve never really needed to get a new phone. But now I think it’s just about coming to the time to get a phone. Yet it’s becoming kind of ridiculous.
When I first started looking at phones and reading cell phone reviews, I wanted to get a smartphone. I would like having the ability to create documents on-the-go, as well as a strong music player, camera, and good voice phone quality. Plus it would be easier to write texts on a QWERTY keyboard. Then I saw the prices for smartphones listed on many of the review sites. I thought, that costs way too much! So I decided to look at standard flip-phones or candy bar phones.
But I just couldn’t find a standard 12-button keypad that provided the features I wanted- music player, camera, voice phone, fairly easy text-writing, and hopefully word processing software. I also discovered that the listed prices for smartphones did not include the discount associated with a contract. So, back to smartphones.
I looked at the smartphones, but was still unable to find a phone that contained the features I wanted. Most smartphones are made to be heavy on the business-usage. The features that are important for business usage are just not what I need! That was when my sister told me about her phone, the Sony W850i. She loves that phone, and it contained many of the features I wanted – a great music player, a great 2mp camera, outstanding voice phone, and the rest of it I can deal with. Okay then- I’ll get the Sony W850i. Sony makes good products, and this one will be fine for me.
Today I discovered that Sony no longer makes the W850i. Instead they make two other phones, which both appear to me to be sub-par to the W850i. So now I’m back to the smartphones. I’m starting to get fed up with this.
I like smart phones. Well, I think I do atleast. I don’t have one but I really want one. The one I’ve been looking at is the blackberry pearl. The only thing I don’t like about most smart phones is that they are so big, but the pearl isn’t.
I need to look into it more before I actually get one though.
Good luck finding one you like.
O and thank you for the link in your blog post! If you do decide to take a class please let me know how it goes. I looked at the site and they have some classes that my college doesn’t offer…so if they are good then I might take some through the site.
Thanks becca! I’ll let you know how the classes and the phone quest goes…
